Mayari's re*creation: Limited Edition Save The Ink

Making most of what's left

The limited edition SAVE THE INK Card Holders are entirely handmade from used beverage carton and left over ink printed on paper. They can be seen as pieces of art that raise our awareness for recycling and making most of what there is (left) as well as a beautiful pieces of craft created for you to store your cards.

How come?

My computer asked me to replace the ink cartride but I saw that there was still some ink left. For sure, it wouldn't work to print accurate pictures but still I wanted to save the remaining ink from going into landfill by using it all up. "How?" I asked myself. "What if I would capture the remaining ink in a nice graphic design being locked up in a practical object like my i.e. Mayari's Card Holder?"

So that's what I did and happened

I AS THE ARTIST CHOSE Mayari's Card Holder to be the practical object to lock up the remaining ink. For the graphic design I chose a nonperiodic tiling pattern named after the mathematical physicist Roger Penrose.

CHANCE DETERMINES the colour of the pattern; It is whatever ink is left in the cartige. The amount of prints - and therefore products - is determined by the amount of ink that has to be used up.

It's Arts AND Crafts

SAVE THE INK is not only art (a concept/an idea that might make you think and increase your awareness - in this case about reducing waste like ink which is harmful if released into our environment) but also a well designed product (a practical object). I think art and design can merge.
